Job Summary:
The Nursing Attendant will report to the unit manager of the Stollery Day Ward, but when required, assistance and support will be provided to other areas within the Stollery Operative Services including: Pediatric Operating Room, Pediatric Post Anesthetic Care Unit, Pediatric PAC and SDA unit, and the Booking Office.
The Nursing Attendant provides patient care services as an unregulated health care provider under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The successful candidate will work within a Family Centered Care Philosophy.
Duties will include, but not limited to the following:
– Assisting with delivery of quality patient care pre-operatively by obtaining and documenting vital signs, height, and weight.
– Assisting with ADL, lifting, transferring, and mobilizing patients.
– Gathering and cleaning equipment, as well as maintaining the inventory of supplies.
– Transporting patients, supplies, and equipment to other areas of the hospital.
– Other duties to assist with meeting the operational needs of the department.
Qualifications:
– Nursing Attendant education course or equivalent experience required.
– Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required.
– Acute care with pediatric experience required, Day ward, and recovery room experience required.
– Ability to work within a team environment to ensure the work is completed quickly and efficiently with minimal supervision.
– Must be able to communicate effectively with every member of the team.
– Must be reliable and dependable.
– Able to work in a fast-paced environment with patients of varying mobility.
– Must be capable of performing heavy duties requiring lifting, pushing, and pulling all patients with varying mobility.
