Job Summary:
The Nursing Attendant provides patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
The Nursing Attendant is responsible for providing direct care to the patient and provides indirect services to support the overall provision of care in their assigned area.
Receives, guides/directs, and supports families as required. Ensures the patient is in the exam room in a timely manner. Escort patient to exam room. Ensures patient is changed into appropriate examination wear. Tracks patient flow and advises Nurse Clinician and physician if patient running late. Ensures clerical staff are aware of clinic timing. Ensures patient chart and relevant documents accompany the correct patient to the exam room.
Maintains supplies and equipment. Ensures all equipment is clean and in good working order. Completes repair requisitions and advises clerical staff and Nurse Clinician of any equipment that is out of service. Ensures that all exam rooms are maintained in a orderly manner between patient visits. Ensures all necessary patient care supplies and stationary are available in each exam room in collaboration with the Service Worker.
Takes height/weight and vital signs on admission to clinic. Documents on appropriate record. Assist with basic procedures and treatments i.e. suture removal, M&T, and dressing change. Sets up treatment room with appropriate equipment and supplies.
Qualifications:
– Graduate of an educational program using the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides.
– 1 year experience in an acute ortho care setting required.
– 1-2 years recent experience in an ambulatory clinic setting required.
