Job Summary:
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to provide quality patient care on this two 38-bed Transition Unit at the Foothills Medical Centre. The patients and families we will serve include those who are waiting for transfer to an alternate level of care setting in the community. Our patients will have complex, diverse and stable care needs.
The Nursing Attendants assist in the provision of direct patient care under the direction of the RN/LPN. The primary duties include: Performing tasks related to activities of daily living; Ensuring Comfort and safety rounds of the patient, Assisting with Walking Incentive and Enhanced Dining programs on unit; and Collaborating with the Multidisciplinary Health Care Team to deliver high quality patient care to our patient population.
The successful candidate will be working on both transition units 71 & 72.
The Nursing Attendant provides patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
Qualifications:
– Grade 12 or equivalent.
– Certified PCA/NA course is required.
– Current BCLS-HCP is required.
– Intermediate computer skills (SCM and RESP) is an asset.
– Experience working with seniors and the cognitively impaired is preferred.
– Student HCA practicum on Transition inpatient Hospital setting an asset.
– Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families in stressful situations required.
– Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills within a team setting.
– Maintains a standard of high quality care, self directed and motivated.
– Demonstrates a caring attitude towards patients and families.
– Demonstrates effective interpersonal, communication skills.
– Ability to work collaboratively with team members is essential.
– Ability to assist with lifting, turning and transferring adult patients essential.
– Ability to lift up to 50 lbs twenty five percent of the shift is necessary.
– Ability to utilize safe transferring and lifting equipment (Principles of It’s Your Move) is necessary.
