Job Summary:
An exciting opportunity in a new Surgical Suite and Minor Surgery Clinic, using a Programmatic, collaborative practice, and team based staffing model.
The Nursing Attendant provides patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
An expanded role for the Attendant to include patient care support as an assistant to the Circulating Nurse using Health Care Aide training. (Specific training for Surgical Suite team expectations, skills, surgical patient care, surgical equipment, team management of between case cleaning, procedures and protocols will be provided).
Qualifications:
– Grade 12 or equivalent education program.
– Existing surgical experience required.
– The Alberta Health Care Aide Course or an equivalent medical field education.
– Must be able to work all shifts and weekends with varied start times to match the surgical work load.
– Must have good communication skills, spoken and comprehension, in order to carry out the role including managing multiple complex equipment items in a timely, respectful manner with a focus on patient safety.
– Must be able walk significant distances, lift and transfer patients, repetitive, and frequent moving of surgical equipment.
– Must have a record of TEAM focused skills.
– Must have basic computer skills i.e. basic keyboard, Microsoft, email, etc.
– Able to take responsibility and accountability for surgical team based assignment, organizing time, and activities to expedite support based on surgical team needs and patient care requirements.
– Able to work efficiently and safely in a surgical aseptic environment assisting the surgical team with patient care and room activity in a high risk, complex, and rapid moving environment.
– Ensure competency based skills for surgical equipment, use, safety measures, monitoring cleanliness, and repair needs.
– Work respectfully and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to expedite safe process required for surgical intervention.
– Ensure excellent communication with team leads and colleagues.
– Must be able and willing to teach and support colleagues and new staff.
