Job Summary:
This position is located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital – Satellite Dialysis Unit. Under the direction of the nursing staff, the Service Worker contributes to safe patient care and the efficiency of the Unit. The Service Worker transports patients, ensures patient comfort, and delivers specimens throughout the Hospital. The Service Worker keeps supplies and linens ordered, stocked, and organized.  The Service Worker maintains, cleans, and handles hospital equipment pertaining to the Unit. The Service Worker also provides assistance in setting up, rinsing, stripping, and the maintenance of the hemodialysis machines under the supervision of a nurse.

Potential to negotiate start date if candidate has already completed the Hemodialysis Training within the last year or currently working within NARP.

The home base for this position is the Satellite Dialysis Unit, however staff may be required to work in the Incenter Dialysis Unit on an infrequent basis if the need arises.
Qualifications:
– Must have a high school diploma (grade 12) or equivalent; post secondary education preferred.
– Current BCLS-HCP certification is required.
– Recent and regular (within 6 months) acute hospital service worker/hospital aid experience required.
– Preference will be given to applicants with current hemodialysis experience.
– Previous training and/or experience transporting patients in a health care institution is an asset.
– Must be able to lift minimum of 40lbs.
– High degree of motivation and organizational skills required.
– Demonstrated good communication skills.
– Ability to work under supervision and independently.
– Ability to work in an actively paced area and adapts to frequent interruptions in activity.

The NARP program requires candidates to complete/pass Service Worker Hemodialysis Training; candidate must be able to attend training following a successful interview. Hemodialysis Training is held in Edmonton or Red Deer depending on availability. Hemodialysis Training is an intensive 2 week schedule consisting of two parts; classroom training followed by Midterm (1 week). A passing mark of 75% is required to move onto buddy shifts. Buddy shifts will take place for one week. A satisfactory performance is required during buddy shifts to be considered a “”pass””.
