Job Summary:
The Health Care Aid (Nursing Attendant) provides patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The Nursing Attendant provides direct care to assist in the activities of daily living, comfort and safety of the patient and provides indirect services to support the overall provision of care in their assigned area.
Qualifications:
– Grade 12 or equivalent required.
– Recognized Nursing Attendant/Personal Care Attendant program or equivalent education program required.
– Current BCLS-HCP Heart Saver program required.
– Previous work experience in an acute care hospital required.
– Previous experience on a Surgical Unit required.
– Able to read, write and speak English fluently.
– Able to communicate effectively with patients and staff and understand nursing instructions.
– Organize and deliver safe care to patients.
– Work independently but maintain collaborative, effective work relationships with hospital staff.
– Demonstrate understanding, patience and sensitivity when relating to patients, families and visitors.
– Able to utilize AHS acute care and hospital policy and procedure manuals online.
– Considerable standing and walking required.
– Ability to assist with lifting, turning and transferring adult patients.
– Ability to lift and carry supplies is required.
– Basic computer skills necessary.
