Job Summary:
As a psychiatric aide/mental health aide you will be reporting to the Unit Care Manager and working as part of an interdisciplinary team. You will perform activities in caring for the personal needs and comforts of patients. This includes assisting in the provision of routine nursing care to meet patient’s hygiene, nutrition mobility, recreation and safety needs. You will also be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors and maintaining effective communication. You will also be escorting patients to appointments on and off site.
Qualifications:
You must have a grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience. Related post-secondary education would be considered an asset. You must possess a valid CPR (BCLS-HCP) certification for health care providers (Heart and Stroke Foundation approved), and have the ability to follow instruction and complete tasks as assigned. Observation and communication skills and the ability to work in a team situation are essential. An excellent attendance record, reliability and personal suitability must be demonstrated through your employment record or references. Having a mental health first aide certificate and health care aide certificate would be an asset with experience in working with people with mental health, addictions or concurrent disorders.
